Connect your AI assistant or agent to Salsa's data and API reference.
Salsa is built to work with AI agents. Its Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers let Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and any other MCP client work with Salsa directly from a conversation.
Choose a server
| GraphQL MCP | Docs MCP | |
|---|---|---|
| Use it to | Answer questions about your employers, workers and payroll | Build and debug an integration with the Salsa REST API |
| Gives access to | Live data in your Salsa account, through the GraphQL API | Salsa REST API endpoints, parameters and schemas |
| Sign-in | OAuth 2.0 user session or OAuth client credentials | None |
| Can change data | Yes, unless you connect in read-only mode | Only if you give it API credentials and ask it to run a request |
| Production URL | https://graphql-mcp.salsa.dev/mcp | https://docs.salsa.dev/mcp |
The GraphQL MCP also has sandbox and read-only URLs. See its endpoint table.
GraphQL MCP
The GraphQL MCP gives your assistant the same access as the credentials you connect with, so it can find an employer, check payroll readiness, review a payroll run or generate a report. To get access, contact your Salsa account team.
See GraphQL MCP for authentication, setup in each client, available tools and safe use, and the prompt guide for prompts to start with.
Docs MCP
The Docs MCP lets your coding agent search the Salsa REST API reference while it writes your integration, so it can pick the right endpoint and build valid requests. It needs no sign-in.
It provides these tools:
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
search-endpoints | Searches paths, operations and parameters for endpoints that match a keyword. |
list-endpoints | Lists every API path and its HTTP methods, with summaries. |
get-endpoint | Returns the full details of one endpoint, including security schemes and servers. |
get-server-variables | Returns the server variables for each server in the API definition. |
execute-request | Sends a request to the Salsa REST API. |
execute-requestsends real API requestsA request made with your API credentials can create, change or delete data. Use sandbox credentials while you build, and review each request before you approve it.
Connect the Docs MCP
Add https://docs.salsa.dev/mcp to your client the same way you add any remote MCP server. For example, in Claude Code:
claude mcp add --transport http salsa-docs https://docs.salsa.dev/mcpFor Claude Desktop, ChatGPT, Codex and Cursor, follow the GraphQL MCP installation steps and use the Docs MCP URL instead. Skip the sign-in step.
